Given a reduced amount of aid, the various towns and school districts would decide to what degree they want to consolidate operations.. The goal would be to move toward municipal services being paid for by municipal property taxes, reserving state revenue for state services At a minimum, this would spark a candid conversation about what government can really afford. Hopefully, a reduced level of state aid will spur the towns to come up with their own solutions in order to conserve their own dollars.
